Quality of life

I had a lovely senior dog in for check-up; he is starting to show signs of a progressive illness. The owner and I had a long talk about quality of life, and how to ensure he is still happy.  I find that determining quality of life for senior and sick pets is very important, but can be a real challenge. There is a great questionnaire that owners can use to evaluate and track their pet’s quality of life. I have the best job in the world

I have the best job in the world!  We had a whole litter of puppies in for their 6 week exam and first vaccinations. All the puppies and their mother are happy and healthy.  There is something wonderful about a room full of playful active puppies!


The general recommendations for puppies and kittens are 3 sets of vaccines. The first set should be given at 6-8 weeks of age, the second at 10-12 weeks of age, and the third at 14-16 weeks of age. Our veterinarians can help you decide which vaccines are right for your pet depending on their age, lifestyle, health and vaccination history.
 

 Snuggling puppies and being covered in puppy kisses makes for a  wonderful day at work!!!!!

Hello From Acres Animal Hospital

                  We are wading into the new technology age, and jumping onto the blogging band wagon. Most of us here at Acres are trained to work with live animals as opposed to computers, but we'll do our best to keep you updated with new, exciting, and timely tidbits to help you care for your furry/feathered/scaly.....family members.        

                   We get a lot of questions about what happens when pets are admitted into the hospital for tests or treatments. With this blog we hope to be able to "de-mystify" what goes on in the hospital to help you feel more comfortable if your pet ever needs hospital care.                                                                                                                                                                        
                    We won't be able to answer questions about your pet's specific treatments, or try to diagnose what is wrong with your pet on this blog. We will try to offer insight into the daily workings at our hospital, and also offer useful links and general tips to keep your pets happy and healthy.

November News From Acres

Happy November, everyone!

Our Xmas Party is fast approaching, so plan on joining us on December 4th from 12 to 2 for treats, fun and photos with Santa.

Since this time of year is so busy, Dr. Lee isn't planning a Horse Chiropractic trip to New Brunswick, but if there's enough interest, she'll schedule one. Please call or email the hospital if you want a horse chiro visit this month or in December.

Remember, this time of year is supposed to be FUN, so make sure you schedule time to relax and try not to take it all too seriously.

Canine Parvovirus

As some of you already know, there's a major outbreak in some parts of HRM of the canine parvovirus. We cannot stress enough how important it is that ALL dogs are immunized against this killer. It is extremely contagious, difficult and expensive to treat, but easy and inexpensive to prevent. Once a dog is infected, even with aggressive, costly treatment, the chances of survival are not good.

Please make sure your dog's immunization is up to date. If you are unsure, please see your vet and ensure your dog is safe before it is too late.
